LaLiga Round 9 brought Valencia and Athletic Club to the Estadio de Mestalla in Valencia on 17 October 2026, with both sides locked in a goalless stalemate under cloudy skies. In a match where clear-cut chances were at a premium, defenses held firm throughout: Valencia's back line, marshaled by an outstanding Pablo Maffeo and César Tárrega, repeatedly repelled Athletic's attacking probes, while Unai Simón and the visiting defense kept the hosts at bay. The contest was also punctuated by a flurry of bookings and a combined eleven substitutions as both coaches, Javier Aguirre and Edin Terzić, searched for a breakthrough that never arrived. In the end, neither goalkeeper was beaten at Mestalla, and the points were shared.
