The remarkable opening to the new campaign being enjoyed by Deportivo Alavés star Mariano Díaz continued on Sunday. This came courtesy of his exploits in a La Liga meeting with Osasuna.

Alavés, as a collective, are fresh off keeping alive what has been a stellar start to the season on the domestic front.

After welcoming Osasuna to Vitoria-Gasteiz this evening, Quique Sánchez Flores’ troops ultimately emerged on the right side of a 5-2 result. This made it 10 points from an available 12 in 2026/27, good enough for a place in 2nd in the La Liga table.

And the aforementioned Mariano Díaz, again, was right at the heart of things…

Not long removed from spending a full year away from professional football, ex-Real Madrid hitman Mariano was afforded his first start of the term on Sunday.

And the 33-year-old responded with a starring performance, laying on the assist for the game’s opener before turning goalscorer himself not long after.

All told, remarkably, this means that Mariano has now racked up six direct goal contributions (3G,3A) in just four appearances (1 start!) in La Liga this season.
