Elversberg will hope to live up to last week’s standard as they travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the second matchday of the Bundesliga.

Borussia Mönchengladbach

Eugen Polanski’s side went 3-0 behind RB Leipzig when their ex-captain Rocco Reitz scored for the hosts last weekend. The former Bundesliga midfielder was hired by the club after a poor start to the season last term by Gerardo Seoane.

The 40-year-old is now a permanent coach at Borussia-Park, but there would be no guarantee to avoid a similar fate if things don’t improve quickly. However, the injury crisis at the club could be one stumbling block to that challenge.

Team News

Enzo Leopold is the latest to be ruled out for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Fellow new signing Daiki Hashioka will also be absent for this one after his Bundesliga debut in Leipzig ended with injury.

Gladbach tried to offload Joe Scally all summer, but he could now replace the Japanese right-back. Franck Honorat is another candidate to return to the starting lineup in place of Robin Hack. Nicolas Kühn will be eager to play his first Bundesliga minutes after completing his loan switch from Como at the start of the week.

Elversberg

It was a dream start for the 59th Bundesliga club on matchday 1 against the 2023/24 champions Bayer Leverkusen. Vincent Wagner’s side scored two goals inside their first ten minutes. Lukas Petkov scored the historic first goal before the United States winger Cole Campbell doubled their advantage.

David Mokwa’s goal inside the first few seconds of the second-half seemed to seal three points, but Leverkusen did manage to score twice late in the game. However, they still managed to hold their own for an emphatic victory to start life in Germany’s top-flight.

Team News

There will probably be no changes made by Wagner for this game since they exceeded expectations in their first Bundesliga experience. Youngsters Noah Darvich and Maurice Krattenmacher are on the wings to take any opportunity for more playing time.

Head-to-Head

This will be only the second fixture between the two sides. Gladbach knocked out the then-Regionalliga side Elversberg with a 5-0 victory in the second round of the 2020/21 season. Florian Neuhaus played the last half-hour as a substitute, while Luca Schnellbacher played up front the entire game for Elversberg.
