Leverkusen open to Hofmann exit in order to save wages

The 34-year-old veteran's departure would enable the club to save around €3million on his wages this season.

According to a report in BILD, Bayer Leverkusen are willing to let Jonas Hofmann leave on a free transfer a year before his contract expires.

With ongoing interest from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Shabab, Leverkusen could save €3million in wages if he departs.

Furthermore, the Rhinelanders had already factored in Hofmann's departure when planning their squad under Carles Martinez.

It is therefore no surprise that the 34-year-old has not been included in Leverkusen's squad for the start of the Europa League.

Even in the Bundesliga , the prospects for playing time are bleak given the competition for places and the return of Moussa Diaby.

Hofmann himself is reportedly in talks with representatives of Al Shabab, but has not yet made a final decision regarding a move.
