Olympique Lyonnais’ Mathys De Carvalho (21) is expected to sign for Al-Diriyah, according to reports in L’Équipe.
Courted by several Saudi and Portuguese clubs, the midfielder is said to have been won over by the pitch from his future manager, Bruno Lage. At Al-Diriyah, who have been promoted to the top flight, De Carvalho will be reunited with other former Ligue 1 players such as Chancel Mbemba (32), Idrissa Gueye (36) and Enzo Millot (24).
Lyon, the club where he came through the ranks, are set to receive a fee of around €1m, plus a number of bonuses, in compensation. Expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia in the coming hours, De Carvalho will immediately sign a contract running until 2029.
Launched into professional football by Paulo Fonseca, the Portuguese Under-20 international (10 caps, one goal) has made 22 appearances in all competitions for OL – providing one assist.
The Rhône-based club, which had been looking to trim their squad and reduce their wage bill throughout the transfer window, will now record their 12th departure of the summer.
