Sunderland AFC are reported to have submitted a written offer to FC Augsburg in their bid to sign Alexis Claude-Maurice (28), according to information from Sky Sport Deutschland.

However, there is currently no indication as to whether the attacking midfielder, who is under contract with the German club until June 2027, is regarded by the Black Cats as a priority target or as an alternative to Malick Fofana (21), should the transfer of the Olympique Lyonnais winger ultimately fall through.

Having come through the FC Lorient academy, Claude-Maurice spent several seasons in France, at OGC Nice and RC Lens, before moving to Germany on a free transfer two years ago. Having quickly become a key member of the FCA squad, the 28-year-old has now made 61 appearances in all competitions for the club – scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists.

Having progressed through the various youth categories with the French national team, Claude-Maurice has earned two caps for the under-21s.
