Ligue 1 Predictions, Round 1
GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle, and sub-editor Bastien Cheval face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition, which returns for the 2026/27 campaign. This season, GFFN will also be hosting guests. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Game of the week: Olympique de Marseille v RC Strasbourg Alsace, Friday 19:45 (UK)
Neither of these two sides, both in Europe last season, head into their opener in the best of health. Olympique de Marseille’s difficulties have been well documented. Their side is a lot weaker than it was at the start of the summer, following the forced sale of key players. Their pre-season hasn’t been overly convincing. Fans aren’t too happy either. That could be felt at the Vélodrome this evening.
Not that Strasbourg are looking too clever either. They conceded 21 goals across seven pre-season friendlies. Filip Jorgensen has since arrived. He alone won’t be able to shore up the defence, however. With Joaquín Panichelli still out and Jacobo Ortega unproven, there are questions about where the goals are coming from. This could be a low-scorer against two sides consumed by pessimism at the start of the season.
