Werder Bremen’s Deichstube fan-site is currently reporting that Justin Njinmah’s transfer to Hull City has officially collapsed. The ordinarily reliable German source cites the fact that Njinmah started Werder’s pre-season match against FC Verden 04 on Saturday afternoon.

After scoring two goals in the opening 45 minutes of the 2-6 away victory, Njinmah was fully accessible to the traveling fans after the friendly and signed autographs. It looks as if the 25-year-old will remain with his Bundesliga outfit for now.

Why is Justin Njinmah’s move to Hull City off?

Deichstube claims that Njinmah and his parent club were prepared to part company after the newly-promoted Premier League outfit submitted an offer in the high single digit million-Euro range. At the end of the day, however, Njinmah and his agent didn’t care for the manner in which the Tigers abruptly opted to part company with sporting director Jared Dublin some 12 days ago.

For a time, it appeared as if new momentum in the talks could be re-established. Njinmah’s presence at the Werder friendly – combined with statements from Hull City owner Acun Ilicali yesterday that Njinmah was “ perhaps one of 20 candidates ” he and the Hull administrative team were considering – render it unlikely that talks will resume.

Deichstube goes so far as to suggest that rumors linking Njinmah with a move to EFL Championship club Southampton also have little truth behind them. Werder chief personnel executive Clemens Fritz and his administrative team – starved for attackers as they fought off relegation last season – remain committed to keeping as many attacking options as possible on the squad.
