Barcelona star admits ‘every training session is painful’

Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny has opened up on the physical struggles he has been forced to deal with of late, owing to his advancing years.
Goalkeeper Szczęsny of course called time on his career back in 2024, following a stint in Italy with Juventus.
The Pole, however, was not away from the pitch for long, after being contacted and ultimately signed by Barcelona amid a crisis between the posts two years ago.
This development has seen Szczęsny’s career extended by several years, with the former Arsenal man currently preparing for a season during which he will turn 37 years of age.
And as alluded to above, the physical challenges which come with being a veteran footballer are beginning to take their toll on ‘Tek’.
Speaking to local media in his native Poland (as cited by Diario Sport), this week, the shot-stopper provided an insight into the daily struggles he now faces on the training pitch:
“In my professional life, I will not deny that every training session is more painful for me. It is suffering.
“Training now requires much more energy from me. It takes mental energy to get up in the morning, and every day it is harder for my body.
“But I also accept it as a challenge I set myself every day: to get up, go to training and give everything. After the daily work, after every training session, you are left with the feeling of being able to say: ‘Ah, I can still do it’.”
