Ralf Rangnick passed on Milan, and the chances of the former frontrunner Oliver Glasner getting the job are dwindling, while former Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has surpassed most candidates after being a late addition to the pool, Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto report (via SOSFanta).

The Austria boss, who renewed his contract with the national team, cited a lack of clarity and guarantees as reasons for not taking the offer to lead the new Rossoneri management. He wasn’t given a firm answer to his requests before the start of the World Cup and grew tired of waiting.

Amorim was contacted in a later round of talks by the Milan higher-ups. He is currently in the lead. He’s keen on accepting a two-year contract. He was highly successful with Sporting CP before heading to Old Trafford.

As for the front office, the Rossoneri are in advanced talks with Eintracht Frankfurt’s mastermind, Markus Krosche. He’d eventually join alongside some of his collaborators. Former Fenerbahce director Devin Ozek is in the mix as well. However, the talks with him have only been preliminary.

Our Take on Milan, Rangnick, and Amorim

Their owner and Zlatan Ibrahimovic clearly want to remain hands-on with the technical matters, despite their poor track record. Hiring the former could have gone south quickly for that reason. Still, it would have been an interesting project had they given them time and leeway.

Appointing the Portuguese coach would have looked a lot better before his awful spell at Manchester United. Plenty of gaffers have been chewed up there, though. We’ll see whether they are determined enough about hiring Krosche to buy him out of his contract, which rarely happens in Serie A.
