How Rafael Leao’s relationship with Max Allegri is driving Milan exit
1
Serie A side Milan seem all but set to lose Rafael Leao this summer, with the player having clarified his stance already. Now, some background has emerged about how his relationship with Max Allegri broke down and this led to his decision about the club.
Daniele Longo has reported that Leao blames the manager’s conversative system for the mess last season. He felt he was being used out of position and this held him back from doing his best.
The relationship between the two seemed jolly at first but slowly, it turned sour. They learned to tolerate each other despite all of it and never quite had a direct clash. They had different visions and Leao’s reaction to being substituted against Lazio was only a sign of things to come.
Ibrahimovic’s role
Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a role to play in this too. He grew further away from Allegri himself and the duo disagreed over sporting ideas and the club’s plans. Soon, the Swede informed Christian Pulisic and Leao that Allegri has asked for them to be sold but also confirmed that the Italian was set to depart himself.
Leao felt betrayed and believed he had done all he could under the manager, despite not really fitting his playing style.
Leao part of a bigger mess at Milan
The manner in which Ibrahimovic has a role to play in the mess says everything about the Rossoneri. There are bigger problems at the club than Leao, who will leave and those issues will continue to linger. He isn’t the victim but a much smaller problem to the other tasks at hand that Gerry Cardinale’s side need to tide over.
