OGC Nice on stand-by amid takeover talks

Earlier this week, Florian Maurice’s exit from OGC Nice was confirmed. The sporting director has paid the price for last summer’s failed transfer window, with (relatively) big-money signings Isak Jansson and Kevin Carlos notably failing to impress; the latter, a centre-forward, failed to score a single goal in Ligue 1.

And yet, it came at a moment when Nice had to be efficient in the market. That is because INEOS were pulling out. The owners’ focus had definitively turned towards Manchester United, in whom they own a minority share. A buyer for the Ligue 1 club was sought after.

Talks are now ongoing and accelerating with an American buyer, L’Équipeunderstands. And it is for this reason that the whole club is on stand-by. It is why Maurice’s successor has not been named, despite Geoffrey Moncada being touted as his successor.

It is also why there is no news regarding the managerial situation. Claude Puel’s interim stay is not expected to be extended. Alexandre Dujeux, notably, has been linked with the role, but no moves have been made, and no moves are expected to be made until 15th June, at which point it is hoped that there will be more clarity regarding the takeover.
