Kobel delighted to see Guirassy back among Dortmund goals
Gregor Kobel was thrilled to see Serhou Guirassy back on the scoresheet for Borussia Dortmund against Werder Bremen, lauding the striker as an "amazing player".
Guirassy had endured a seven-game Bundesliga goal drought, but he came off the bench to score Dortmund's third goal in their 3-0 win over Werder.
Nico Schlotterbeck and Marcel Sabitzer also netted for the Black and Yellow, who have now kept six clean sheets at home in the Bundesliga this season – a league high and a new club record for the first eight home games of a campaign in the competition.
But it was Guirassy who stole the headlines by netting his sixth league goal of the campaign, his first since October 31, and Kobel was delighted for his team-mate.
"I'm super happy for Guirassy. I came all the way up the pitch to congratulate him. I think he's an amazing player," the Dortmund goalkeeper said.
"When you're a striker, sometimes just scoring a goal is all you need, so I was extremely happy for him.
"And also [Sabitzer] scored an amazing goal. I know him for taking these types of shots [at goal]. He likes these shots, which can be really dangerous."
Dortmund are now unbeaten in their last 10 Bundesliga matches (W6 D4) and closed the gap to leaders Bayern Munich at the top of the table to eight points, with Vincent Kompany's side playing on Wednesday.
BVB were dominant throughout against Werder, having 18 shots worth 2.2 expected goals (xG), while limiting their opponents to just six attempts.
Kobel added: "I think how these last games played out; it was two good results [against Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder].
"It was not an easy first half. We came in a little bit slow, but we still went 1-0 up and defended pretty nicely when we were forced to do so.
"Then in the second half, we controlled most of the game, scored more goals, and we can take the three points and be very happy."
While Dortmund are up in second, Werder are 12th in the table and without a win in six league outings.
