Turkish Süper Lig giants Fenerbahçe have made great strides in their attempts to sign Al-Ittihad midfielder N’Golo Kanté (34), according to a report from L’Equipe. The France international is out of contract with the Jeddah-based outfit at the end of the season, and his contractual situation put several European clubs on high alert. But it appears that Fenerbahçe have stolen a march on their rivals because Kanté has reportedly reached a contractual agreement with the Istanbul-based club.

L’Equipe reports that a Fenerbahçe delegation flew to Saudi Arabia to negotiate the terms of Kanté’s early exit. Club-to-club talks are currently underway. Although Al-Ittihad have submitted Kanté a contract renewal proposal, the diminutive defensive midfielder is reportedly enthused at the prospect of joining the Süper Lig. Kanté entertained a return to Europe as it would boost his chances of making Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad with France. He could even reunite with France international midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi should he were to sign for Fenerbahçe.
