The formality of Bayer Leverkusen keeper Matej Kovar’s transfer to PSV Eindhoven has been made official. As reported by Get German Football News back in July, Kovar’s return to his Bundesliga outfit was never expected. Germany’s red company team merely sought to employ an accounting trick in order to record Kovar’s €5m transfer fee in the 2026 fiscal year.

Kicker and virtually every other reliable German footballing media source report that €2m in performance related bonuses are tacked onto Kovar’s sale. Leverkusen – like Kovar’s previous club Manchester United – have also secured a re-sale fee should the current Eredivisie leaders opt to move Kovar in the future. Kovar’s estimated market value has been upgraded to €7m in the latest transfermarkt update.

Kovar has done well with his new Dutch outfit, earning the regular No. 1 role and keeping six clean sheets in 26 competitive appearances for Eindhoven. The 25-year-old has also been capped eight times for country (Czech Republic) in the 2025 calendar year. Leverkusen, meanwhile, can consider themselves fully satisfied with the decision to bring Dutch keeper Mark Flekken back to the Bundesliga and install him as the new No. 1.

Flekken – excepting Leverkusen’s opening round Pokal fixture – has logged maximum minutes for die Werkself. The former Brentford back-stop has recorded four Bundesliga clean sheets this year in addition to turning in some especially impressive performances for Leverkusen in the Champions League.

We are very happy that we can now finally tie Matej to PSV, ” Eindhoven sporting director Earnie Stewart noted in a club statement. “ In a short period of time, he has shown that he not only has excellent goalkeeping qualities, but also fits perfectly into our style of play. Matej exudes calm, is strong in building up play and performs well under pressure. He is also a very affable person who fits well into the team and wants to get the most out of himself every day.
