Hamburg head coach comments on scandal engulfing former club boss Stefan Kuntz
Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin answered a question about the scandal involving former club board-member-for-sport Stefan Kuntz at a Monday press conference. It’s recently come to light to that Kuntz’s surprise resignation at the beginning of the month was related to sexual harassment charges leveled against the 63-year-old by club employees.
Hamburger SV and Kuntz initially sought to keep the matter out of the public eye, but the allegations were ultimately leaked to Germany’s Sport Bild tabloid. Kuntz’s former Bundesliga outfit repeatedly rebuffed any and all requests for comment until Kuntz himself took to social media yesterday to explicitly deny the charges. This forced the club’s hand.
Unfortunately for Kuntz, Hamburg have confirmed that such allegations were leveled against their former board member.HSV noted that an internal investigation led them to the conclusion that the accusations were “ credible “. While not specifically addressing the nature of the claims, HSV specifically conveyed that they were serious enough to warrant “ the fastest possible separation from the board member. “
“ Of course we’ve talked about it and it’s a topic within the team, ” Polzin said. “ It’s not been something explicitly brought to the fore as it remains my motto and our credo that we must focus on the things we can influence. That would be [things like] the work on the pitch and our sessions in the video room. We’ve handled this in the most professional manner possible. “
